Learn how to make classic Roman dishes, Amatriciana and Saltimbocca, in this private virtual experience that will send you straight to a trattoria in the Eternal City
A visit to Rome would be incomplete without blissfully wandering into a trattoria on what feels like a hidden street. There's something special that happens when you feel tucked away from the world, sitting in an ancient place that has more history than you can grapple. And while sitting there, embracing the complexity of our world history is when something startling happens. You receive a plate of food so simple yet so incredibly delicious, it confuses you even more.
Across menus in Rome you'll find Amatriciana. This dish is so simple it's perplexing - pasta, tomatoes, cheese and ham is really all it is, yet this sauce is so powerful that if you love it, you really love it, and are tempted to make it the only thing you order during your trip. Amatriciana has even received the Italian government stamp as a traditional product of Lazio and a specialty of the region, which is an important cultural designation given to only a select group of dishes. With roots in the village of Amatrice, a two hour drive from the city centre of Rome, this dish is a classic.
In your private virtual cooking class, you'll be joined by a chef, live from Italy, who will teach you this fabulous three course meal. You'll start by making a Chocolate Salami. Yes, it's chocolate salami, sounds weird - which you'll get over once you enjoy a slice of this particularly odd but delicious dessert. Then you'll move on to making your Bucatini all'Amatriciana. Last you'll make Veal Saltimbocca, an incredibly simple but delicious Roman dish of veal and sage.
At the end of your cooking class, you'll have a perfect three course meal built with traditional ingredients like pasta, pork, and local cheeses. You'll understand simple Italian cuisine in a whole new way. Then, simply say 'ciao' to your chef, and then enjoy an epic Italian meal from your home - just like you traveled to Italy for the day.
