In a tour of meatballs of the world, learn how to make Vietnamese Bun Cha, with a chef joining you, live from Vietnam

We wish everyone would take a tour of meatballs around the world. Each country has their unique take on this household favourite, and Vietnam is no different. Bun Cha are fresh, vibrant and will take your ordinary meatball up 10 notches.  Coupled with noodles, fresh herbs and vegetables and topped off with a Mango Custard dessert, easy enough for a weeknight sweet treat - this class is one everyone should take.  


If you're new to Bun Cha, welcome to what will become a staple meal in your own kitchen. In Hanoi, Bun Cha is the lunch of choice.  So much so, in 1959 a Vietnamese food writer even described Hanoi as a town “transfixed by bún chả". This savory and herbaceous dish can be found all over the North as street food, in homes, or in high end restaurants. In the South, a similar dish of rice vermicelli and grilled meat is called bún thịt nướng. While today we often associate different dishes with Vietnam first, Bun Cha has become more popular on menus after a photo of former President Obama circulated on the internet dining with the late Anthony Bourdain.

Chef at one of Vietnam's top restaurants.

Chef Uyen was born on Phu Quoc Island, one of the most beautiful places in Vietnam, renowned for producing 80% of the country’s fish sauce, which is made from local anchovies. These fish sauce refineries are considered some of the best in the world. Inspired by her mother’s love for cooking, Chef Uyen left her native island to study at the Saigon Tourist Culinary School in Ho Chi Minh City.


She began her career at a local restaurant specializing in Hue City-style cuisine, where she mastered the ancient traditions of Vietnamese cooking. Her talents led her to Hoa Tuc Restaurant, one of Vietnam’s top dining establishments, where she continued to refine her skills. Hoa Tuc is known for redefining Vietnamese cuisine with endless creativity and the highest quality ingredients. The restaurant has been featured in publications such as Elle Magazine (France & Luxembourg), Geo Magazine, and in-flight magazines for Etihad Airlines, Air France, and Air Asia, among others.


In 2017, Chef Uyen became a cooking instructor at Hoa Tuc, allowing her to share her passion and knowledge of Vietnamese cuisine with travelers worldwide. This role also allowed her to learn about global cuisines and cultures. She’s excited to welcome you into her kitchen and guide you through the rich flavors of Vietnamese cuisine!

*The base price of most classes is $369 which allows 2 participants in the same kitchen. Each additional person in your kitchen thereafter is an additional $50 USD.
