Master the flavors of a Brazilian churrascaria in this steakhouse inspired cooking class with a chef, live from Brazil
Long before the concept of rodízio-style dining was introduced in the 1970's, were churrascarias. Rodizio dining, a modern approach to the Brazilian Steakhouse with waiters bringing endless spits of meat to your table, is what we often think of when we think of Brazilian steak, but the history of meat and Brazil goes much further than that. Churrasco, which translates to "barbecue" in Portuguese, is a foundational part of Brazilian culture. Bringing together friends and family, Brazilians use this time to celebrate, enjoy life, and yes, eat local meats.
In this private virtual cooking class, we'll bring you to the family home, where you'll experience a traditional Brazilian meal enjoyed during a Churrasco. You'll start with Pão de Queijo, the famous Brazilian cheese bread found at nearly every local gathering. Naturally gluten free, this bread is just slightly crunchy, but more chewy and soft and just the slightest bit tart. A word of warning, you'll likely finish all of them before sitting down to enjoy your meal (so we hear from clients). Next, you'll move onto your gorgeous plate. Piled high with filet mignon served with sauteed onions, traditional rice and beans - and farofa. If you've never had farofa, get ready to enjoy meat in a whole new way. Served as an accompaniment to your meat, it's a nutritious toasted breadcrumby (but not at all) dip that adds a special crunch to your meal.

Chef Renato was born and raised in Rio de Janeiro. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, as well as an MBA and a Master’s in Biophysics, all from UFRJ.
